Ryoute Ippai
Both Hands Full
Arslan Senki second ED song
Written and Sung by Suzuki Shoko
Translated by Imo-girl
Last Updated: 1/29/00
Te wo nobashi afureru sora no aosa ni
I extend my hands to the blueness of the overflowing sky
[Toketeku] hadashi no kodomotachi
Barefooted children
Tooku hikaru hizashi no naka hashireba
Run in the sunlight, shining from afar
Kakato ni oitsuku nagai kage
On the heels of their long shadows
Mienai asu wo koko de matteiru
I'm waiting here for the unseen tomorrow
Shizuka ni nemuru anata no soba de
By your side as you silently sleep
Osorenaide ikite yukeru
Without fear I will continue to live
Anata ga iru kara
Because I have you
Osorenaide nigirishimeta
Without fear I held you tightly
Te wo hanashi wa shinai kara
Because I'll never let go of your hand
Aoi umi kuroku yogosarete yuku
The blue sea is becoming stained with blackness
Sora e to kanashii ame ga sosogu
From the sky sorrowful rain pours
Chiisana inochi dakishimetanara
If you hold your small life tightly
Kokoro no tobira hiraki hajimeru
The door of your heart will begin to open
Yoru wo koete yami wo nukete
We pass through the night and emerge from the darkness
Mezameta anata ni
Awakened by you
Namae no nai amai hana wo
Nameless, sweet smelling flowers
Ryoute ippai todokeyou
Fill both hands to overflowing
Osorenaide ikite yukeru
Without fear I will continue to live
Anata ga iru kara
Because I have you
Osorenaide nigirishimeta
Without fear I held you tightly
Te wo hanashi wa shinai kara
Because I'll never let go of your hand
Yoru wo koete yami wo nukete
We pass through the night and emerge from the darkness
Mezameta anata ni
Awakened by you
Namae no nai amai hana wo
Nameless, sweet smelling flowers
Ryoute ippai todokeyou
Fill both hands to overflowing
Notes: "Ryoute Ippai" is one of my two favorite anime songs (the other
being "Kaze ga Fuku Hi"). There is another very good translation of "Ryoute Ippai" at the beautiful "Arslan Senki/Heroic Legend of Arislan" page. Please visit it! (You can get there from my links page.) The site maintainer has translated all of the Arslan Senki songs and also has MP3s, so you can hear Suzuki Shoko in all her glory! If you love it, please buy the CD. You won't be sorry.
Strangely enough, I associate this song with Anju from Marmalade Boy.
"Toketeku" means "dissolving/thawing" and I just couldn't figure out how to
make that fit into the line. I suppose the children have a sort of dream-like quality to them.
"Anata ga iru kara" literally means "because you exist", but its idiomatic
meaning is "because I have you". (Thanks, Kodansha!)
"Mezameta anata ni" confuses me a bit. It means "awoke" "you" "by/in/to".
I'm not sure if the person who awoke is the singer or the person she's addressing. Possible translations I can see are: "You woke me", "I awoke by your side", "You awoke and to you were delivered nameless flowers". If anyone has any thoughts, let me know. I left it sort of ambiguous.
"Todokeru" means "send/deliver", but I left that out for aesthetic reasons.
A more literal translation might be: "Nameless, sweet smelling flowers are sent to fill both hands." See? It just doesn't sound as nice, does it? |
