Marmalade Boy Song Lyrics
|
|
Imo-girl says: This album is a vocal collection which has all of the Op
and Ed songs from the series as well as the infamous song "Moment" that seems to play every time Miki turns around! The songs are catchy in an anime pop kind of way -- I've listened to the CD more times than is probably safe, but I'll still be humming along when the brain aneurysm finally blows. Tracks 5-8 and 11 are sung by Kouda Mariko (Miki's seiyuu), but none of the other seiyuu are featured.
Bottom line: If you're an MB fan, this is the album for you.

The Vision of Escaflowne Original Soundtrack 2 VICL-772 (3 stars)

Imo-girl says: These CD's are soundtracks, not vocal collections, but they
each have several vocal tracks. The vocal music is J-eclectic, but the rest is classical -- and absolutely gorgeous. Imagine "Carmina Burana", "Pictures at an Exhibition", Mozart's Requiem and any John Williams soundtrack of your choice (say, Jurassic Park) all rolled into one, and you start to get an idea of what these CD's are like. Oh yeah, throw in some Bendictine monks, too! The wonderful Sakamoto Maaya (Hitomi's seiyuu) sings on soundtracks one, three and Lovers Only. Meruru's seiyuu (Ohtani Ikue) sings "Neko no Kimochi" -- of course! I love these CD's and highly recommend all of them, however, having said that, I must say: if you only have $30 and can live without the full versions of "Yakusoku wa Iranai" and "Mystic Eyes", I would recommend buying Vision of Escaflowne Lovers Only. Of course, having all of them would be best. . .

Mahou Tsukai Tai! Lyrics
Mahou Tsukai Tai! Koi to Mahou to Atarashii Uta TYCY-5558
Ohayou! Jefu-kun! (Good Morning, Jeff-kun!)
Mousou na Boku (Delusional Me)
Imo-girl says: This album is a collection of image songs by the cast
(including the magic wand itself!) backed by synthesizers and a drum machine. The songs are upbeat, with an early rock n' roll feel. The instruments might not be spectacular, but the singing overall is pretty good. (With the exception of Koyasu Takehito-san. . . his speaking voice is *wonderful*, but it doesn't really lend itself to singing, IMO.) Sae and Nanaka's peppy image songs really get one's juices flowing! Unfortunately, Takeo-kun gets his _own_ juices flowing with his ecchi song "Delusional Me". *Sweatdrop* o_O; |

Arslan Senki Lyrics

The Heroic Legend of Arslaan III-IV SRCL-2681 (Five stars!)
Ryoute Ippai (Both Hands Full)
Imo-girl says: This CD is also a soundtrack. "Ryoute Ippai" is the
only vocal track. The rest of the music is classical, with a strong middle eastern flavor. Like Kanno Yoko's marvelous Escaflowne soundtrack, this music can stand on its own as music, not just as background noise to a kickass anime. The scale is more intimate than Escaflowne's soundtrack, utilizing the Crane Strings Quartet (a pun on the composer Tsuru Norihiro's name) rather than a whole orchestra. Standout tracks include "Theme of Daruun" (which was used for the trailers) and Xsathra-vairya (played at the Lusitanian funeral), but ALL of the tracks are beautiful. And unlike Escaflowne's songs, they never sound like they were taken from a soundtrack. (Escaflowne's "Flying Dragon" just about screams "this is a SOUNDTRACK and this is the CHASE MUSIC!!", doesn't it? Not that my hair doesn't stand on end, but sometimes a more subtle approach is nice. ^_^;) Oh, and, given a choice, definitely buy the above CD rather than the other Arslan soundtrack, "The Best of Arslaan" (SRCL 3299). Both go very well in the CD changer with Loreena McKennitt's "The Mask and the Mirror" CD, though. Hummous, anyone? |

|
Imo-girl says: Again, this is a soundtrack, composed by the extremely
talented Kanno Yoko. Like Escaflowne, it has a cinematic feel, but the music is more New-age. I've broken my rule by translating a song from an anime I've never seen, but what the hey. I also never thought I'd like a song entitled "My Little Pony" (track 5), but it's really good! Who woulda figured? |

Imo-girl says: This vocal collection is a licensed American CD. Yay!
You can get it for $16 and yet _still_ be able to live with yourself! It has image songs by the Greenwood Gang of Four, (including three duets by Mitsuru and Shinobu, two solos by Suka-chan, and Sakamoto Chika's
"No-Brand Heroes") as well as three songs involving the whole dorm, a
comic song by Hasukawa Kazuhiro and two J-pop songs, among others. (The two songs from the OAVs, "Kimi wo Suki de Yokatta" and "Aim for Barcelona!" are unfortunately not on this album.) The music is mostly upbeat, with a Latin-ish flavor. This was my first Japanese CD, and I still listen to it. Often! I have recently acquired the kanji lyrics, so more Greenwood lyrics should be forthcoming.
Want to buy it? The CD liner notes say to call 1-800-427-6100 to order.
