Friends, Enemies and Hangers-On
Igarashi Miya
Seiyuu: Honda Chieko (Kurumi/Kimagure Orange Road)
A second year from Suminohana Girl's School, Igarashi
is Mitsuru's kouhai from his junior high school days.
She has dark hair and yellow eyes. Igarashi cultivates a
"tough" exterior, referring to herself as "ore." ("Ore,"
meaning "I/me," is a pronoun properly used only by men
-- and usually only in the company of other men!
Shinobu uses the less rough pronoun "boku" in mixed
company and Shun uses "boku" all the time.) Igarashi's
quirk gets her into trouble and only the gang of four can
help her. Hasukawa especially takes an interest in this
odd girl -- can he win her away from Tenma, who's been
her boyfriend for the past ten years?! The Igarashi saga
is the main focus of OAVs 5-6 and several manga eps.
The Dorm Lady
Seiyuu: Sasaki Yuko (Manga-ka/Koko wa Greenwood)
A solidly built, forty to fifty-something year old woman who acts as the
dorm manager and chaperone. She is adamant about keeping girls out of
the dorm and can cuss like a sailor. Has a son who lives away from home.
Ryokujou Noriko
A depressed painter with long black hair. Probably
had her heart broken by Shinobu's brother, Akira.
(Noriko and Akira were engaged, but he disappeared
3 years ago after being disowned by his father.) The
relationship between Shinobu and Noriko isn't clear
to me. They seem to be just childhood friends, but she
is definitely jealous when he moves into Greenwood.
Shinobu also calls her "Noriko-chan", which implies
some familiarity. On two occasions he violates curfew to visit her. He
also has no compunctions about dropping by her apartment unannounced
(to tell her that his brother has reappeared). When we first meet Noriko,
she is painting a portrait of Shinobu. She also gives him chocolate on
Valentine's Day with beautiful calligraphy on it that says "Food Art."
Noriko is 6 years older than Shinobu. She seems borderline psychotic.
Manga only. Noriko has a younger brother named Noritake.
Nitta Mieko
A sickly, hollow-eyed pop idol who takes a liking to
Mitsuru and company. Has an unfortunate habit of
running away from her handlers. She is stalked by
fans, so often wears a wig. Seen only in the manga.
In manga volume 4, Mitsuru and Hasukawa are hired
as her bodyguards! In volume 7, Mieko and Mitsuru
star in a television commercial together.
Nagisa's Henchmen: A, B, C and D
Seiyuu: A - Takemura Taku
B - Futamata Issei
C - Yamazaki Takemi
D - Nakahara Shigeru
Nameless men in dark suits and
sunglasses who do the dirty work of
She-who-must-be-obeyed. Aren't terribly good at whatever it is they do.
A is the one with the mustache. He is the Psychotic-one's right hand man,
and is very bad at impersonating girls on the telephone. (He calls Mitsuru
and pretends to be a high school girl named "Nasu Yukie" in OAV 2. ^_^)
B is the tallest one. He knees a captive Mitsuru in the gut in manga
volume 2, so it's payback time in the OAV when Mitsuru pastes him with a
pie! I get
C and D mixed up, and it really isn't that important, anyway.
A side note: in Manga volume 2, D (C?) calls Shinobu "Shinobu-sama",
which I thought was odd for a guy who works for Shinobu's nemesis. I
figure either Nagisa-ojousama insists her goons call him that (he is, after
all, her brother) or A-tachi are actually employed by Shinobu's parents. I
think option two is more likely. Appear in both the anime (OAV 2) and
manga. In the manga version of Devilwood, A-tachi play Kappas to
Nagisa's evil water spirit. Kappas in dark suits and sunglasses. o_O;
Misako the Ghost girl
Seiyuu: Minaguchi Yuko (Hotaru/Sailor Moon, Yawara/Yawara!)
Sixteen year old Misako died before ever receiving her first kiss. Unable
to move on to her next existence without resolving her past loves and
regrets, she decides to haunt Mitsuru. Her final wish is to possess
Shinobu's body and use it to kiss Mitsuru! Misako is just a little too cute.
She has pale green hair and violet eyes. Her sobs are about a 7.0 on the
Richter scale -- luckily her range is fairly short. Seen in OAV 4 only.
Manga-ka
Seiyuu: Sasaki Yuko (Dorm Lady/Koko wa Greenwood)
A twenty to thirty-something year old woman with short brown hair and
yellow eyes. (Modeled on Greenwood's own Nasu Yukie!) Approaches
Mitsuru and Shinobu with the offer of a job, then asks them to take their
clothes off! Supplies the costumes for Lemon Herb and Cool Mint in
OAV 3. Also seen in manga volume 11, when her underwear is stolen.
Kone
A fat orange-and-white cat who lives near the dorm. Shun named her
Kone by reversing the syllables of the word "cat" ("neko"). Kone, like all
Japanese cats (?!), has the ability to sense ghosts. OAV 4 only.
Koizumi Tenma
Seiyuu: Yamaguchi Kappei
(Ranma-kun/Ranma1/2, Arslan/Arslan Senki)
Tenma lives across from Igarashi Miya. He has looked
after her since they were children, as her mother is often
away on business. Indirectly responsible for Igarashi's
delinquent tendencies. Tenma seems nice on the outside, but is actually
quite possessive of Miya. He has poofy light brown hair in a bowl cut
and green eyes. Seen in the manga also.
Kawasumiya Yuuko
Seiyuu: Hisakawa Aya
(Sailor Mercury/Sailor Moon, Arimi/Marmalade Boy)
Furusawa-sempai's love interest. He has a part time
job at at her family's market. Their story is in manga
vol. 5, ep. 3 ("We of Love and Youth"): it's Yuuko's
birthday and her wish is a ride on Furusawa's motorcycle!
Yuuko has a cameo in "Here is Devilwood" as the
"ferryman's wife" opposite Furusawa in OAV 3.
Mitsuru's advice helped them get together, so he has to tease Furusawa
about her in the anime. Yuuko's birthday is Valentine's Day.
Why is *he* here?!
They're all dead.
Boo. Hiss.
But is this really a career?
Mieko on stage.
Now what do you want?
Manga scans by Imo-girl. Take 'em if you want, but link to me, please!
Kanda Toshiyuki
A mysterious, handsome young man who shows up at the
infirmary one day. What exactly is his relationship with
Hasukawa's brother, Kazuhiro, and what effect will it
have on Sumire-chan's happy marriage? Hasukawa will
never forgive him! Seen in the manga (vol 6) only. Kanda
also exclaims his trademark "Oh my God!" in the song
"Greenwood Carnival 3 ~ Song of These Days" on the vocal CD.
Surely you've heard of me?
