Hasukawa Kazuhiro
Also known as: Hiro-kun, Hasukawa-sensei, Hiro-nii
Age: ~24 (at the start of the series)
Birthday: July X
Sign: Cancer
Blood Type: O
Height: 181 cm (~6' 0.5")
Weight: 68 kg (~149.5 lb)
Seiyuu: Inoue Kazuhiko (Daryoon/Arslan Senki)
Blond and grey-eyed, Kazuhiro resembles Mitsuru more than he does his
younger brother, Kazuya. Orphaned while still in high school, Kazuhiro was forced to raise Kazuya by himself. At the time, he took this responsibility very seriously, but now that Kazuya is grown, Hiro has
allowed himself to return to his former easy-going personality (much to his
brother's chagrin). To add insult to injury, Hiro has married Kazuya's first love, Sumire-chan. He also takes perverse pleasure in teasing the heck out of his brother because "His reactions are so cute!" Kazuhiro works at Ryokuto Academy as the school nurse. As such he has to deal with the disappointment of the various boys who come through the infirmary expecting a female nurse (including Mitsuru in manga vol. 5), as well as rumors that he is gay. Kazuhiro also graduated from Ryokuto Academy, making him an "OB" or "Old Boy". He has a fairly friendly relationship with Mitsuru and Shinobu which dates back to their first year. (Both of them wound up unconscious in the infirmary within the first four weeks of their arrival! Not at the same time, though.) Although Hiro gives Kazuya a hard time, he really does love his brother. See below. |

Tezuka Nagisa
Seiyuu: Tsuru Hiromi
(Madoka/Kimagure Orange Road, Ukyou/Ranma1/2)
The middle child of the Tezuka family, Nagisa has
been ignored a little too long. She is, in a word,
psychotic. A beautiful woman with wavy black
hair and blue eyes, Nagisa dresses and behaves like
a rich gangster. She even employs nameless henchmen, dresses them in in
black suits and sunglasses, and drives around in a Mercedes (which is supposedly the favorite of Japanese gangsters). Nagisa is consumed by the desire for revenge on Shinobu for injustices perpetrated on her as a child. Unfortunately, this revenge seems to inconvenience Shinobu's friends far more than it does him, but it definitely makes for interesting viewing! Nagisa appears in both the anime (OAVs 2 and 5) and manga (volumes 2, 6, 11). Despite her sadistic demeanor, we find out in manga volume two that Nagisa can't really stand the sight of blood. Nagisa is able to crush glass tumblers in one hand -- maybe it's a family trait. ^_~ |

Mr. and Mrs. Tezuka
Appear only in the manga. I'm not sure about Shinobu's relationship with
his parents, but I think there's tension between him and his father. It's possible the woman Shinobu is seen talking to in manga volume 2 is his grandmother rather than his mother. (She's only seen from the neck down.) |
|
Tezuka Akira
The oldest child of the Tezuka family, Akira has
been missing for about 3 years. (He was disowned by Shinobu's father.) Akira has wanted to be a cameraman since he was a child, and was involved in the commercial shoot in manga volume 7. He likely broke the heart of Rokujou Noriko, the painter. Unlike his siblings, Akira has a rough appearance and doesn't have much to say for himself. He is ticklish. Akira appears only in the manga. |

Kisaragi Yui
Shun's baby sister, who is born during the summer of
Shun's first year at Ryokuto. By family tradition, the Kisaragi hotels are passed from mother to daughter, so Yui-chan will likely inherit them. Until her birth it was assumed that Shun was going to take over the family business. Manga only. |
|
Kisaragi Reina
Seiyuu: Kawata Taeko
Shun's 13-year old brother. Reina has pale lavender
hair and pink eyes. He also looks like a girl. Reina idolizes Shun (whom he calls "oniichama") and is upset on Shun's behalf when Yui is born. He is seen in both the anime (OAV 2) and manga (volumes 3, 9). Bishounen that he is, Reina eventually starts a band with his school friends. ^_^ |
|
Mr. and Mrs. Kisaragi
I don't know much about them. They appear only in the manga. Mrs.
Kisaragi runs several hotels. Mr. Kisaragi writes haiku. |
|
Mr. Ikeda
Mr. Ikeda is a professor at the local Buddhist college,
and presumably a monk. We never see him in the anime. He appears for two panels in manga volume 10. |
|
Ikeda Masato
Also known as: Sho
Seiyuu: Okiayu Ryoutarou (Yuu/Marmalade Boy)
Black haired and blue eyed like his mother, Sho is
younger than Mitsuru by approximately two weeks.
Although technically the "true Ikeda," Sho is content to be the second son
and cede inheritance of Kouryu Temple to Mitsuru. He obviously loves his brother and is hurt by Mitsuru's choice to move out of the house. Appears in both the anime (OAV 6) and manga (volumes 4, 7, 10). In manga volume 10, Sho's grandfather asks him: "Do you really hate the idea of becoming a monk that much?" to which he replies "I don't hate it." We also find out that Sho failed the Ryokuto entrance exam. |
|
Mrs. Ikeda
Seiyuu: Maruyama Manami
Black haired and blue eyed, she looks nothing like Mitsuru,
but this woman truly is his mother -- in spirit if not in reality.
Though cheerful and unconcerned on the outside, she is very
perceptive and understands the emotional undercurrents
between her children -- perhaps better than they do themselves. She loves
both of her sons and gives them the freedom they need to work out their problems on their own. An awesome woman who doesn't get enough screen time. Also seen in manga volumes 4 and 10. |

Hasukawa Sumire (nee Kitani)
Age: ~22 (at the start of the series)
Sign: Scorpio
Blood Type: B
Seiyuu: Shimamoto Sumi
(Nausicaa/Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind)
Hiro's wife and Kazuya's sister-in-law, Sumire
is a violet-haired beauty with a happy personality.
(In the manga she is pictured jumping in the air
with the caption "I'm so genki it's embarrassing!" next to her.) Sumire is
blissfully unaware that Kazuya is in love with her, which makes her attempts to mother him all the more horrifying for the poor guy. She often embraces Kazuya, which either causes him to have a nosebleed or renders him catatonic. Sumire and Hiro met each other in college, where he was her sempai. (Hiro was a third year when she entered college.) Sumire was Kazuya's English tutor during his third year of middle school. (At the time she was in her fourth year in college, majoring in English culture.) Her tutoring helped Kazuya pass the Ryokuto entrance examination. Sumire played the Queen in the "Here is Devilwood" movie and manga. |

Hasukawa Midori
Birthday: July X
Sign: Cancer
Blood Type: O (Note: Midori's stats are the same as Hiro's.)
Kazuya's nephew, who is born during the summer of Hasukawa's second
year. Midori's resemblance to a young Kazuya is apparently striking. Shinobu goes so far as to ask if Midori is Kazuya's child, much to Hasukawa's dismay! ^_^; Manga only. The boys get left alone with Midori in manga volume 8. Eek! (Mitsuru is utterly adorable. Swoon!) |
|
Mr. and Mrs. Hasukawa
Both deceased. Mr. Hasukawa died of an illness when Kazuhiro was 11.
(Kazuya would have been about 2 years old.) Mrs. Hasukawa was killed in a car accident (I'm not sure if she was *in* the car or *hit* by it) when Kazuhiro was a second year at Ryokuto and Kazuya was about 7 years old. ;_; Mrs. Hasukawa makes a posthumous appearance in manga vol. 4. |
|
Ikeda Ojiichan
Ikeda-Ojiichan is Sho and Mitsuru's grandfather.
He is also a monk. He appears briefly in anime OAV 6 and manga volume 10 to deliver some scathing lines. ^_^; Nice reaction, Mitsuru! |
|
In manga volume 6, we find out that during
college Kazuhiro supported himself and Kazuya by working at a place called "Club Heart Doom." (*Sweatdrop*) As far as I know, Kazuya never found out what his brother did -- he'd probably die of a heart attack! (My, didn't Hiro look pretty!) Don't worry, Sumire-fans -- she knows all about it! |
